We at the Sequim Police Department believe that, by working with the community we can better achieve a higher level of public safety. Therefore, we have made the effort to establish the following working programs/philosophies with the department:

Problem Oriented Policing
All officers of the department are charged with problem recognition and solution. It is often beneficial to spend the time to determine why a problem is occurring and then seek a resolution to the problem, rather than using resources attempting to handle recurring problems. As an example, officers are tasked with special assignments during local festivals and special programs. If the officers have had to handle problems in previous events, the goal would be to attempt to find solutions to the identified problems to avoid the repetition in the next event. This same basic concept is applied to crime and traffic problems also. We know that you may know more about your specific area than we might, so we encourage you to contact us and work with us to improve the quality of life issues for our community.

Crime Prevention and Safety Programs
The department utilizes a variety of programs to assist you in avoiding becoming a victim and to help improve the general safety of our children and adults. Please refer to the specific Crime Prevention section for existing or new projects. If you don't see an area that you would like to have addressed, please contact us to see if we would be able to develop a presentation for you. Remember that our K-9, Huey, is also available for public demonstrations and presentations.

Citizen Academy
We would like to be able to host a citizen police academy that would be designed to educate you on what the officers do and how they do it. We have not yet adopted a final course outline but we would expect that it would cover topics to include - patrol, investigations, evidence collection & processing, some discussion of relevant laws, and an introduction to the training that the officers undergo. If you are interested in more information when it is available please send us a note and we will notify you when the Academy package is complete.
