Emergencies

In any emergency situation, dial 9-1-1. If you can, stay on the telephone and don't hang up. Stay calm and listen carefully. Do not hang up until the dispatcher tells you to do so.

The Sequim Police Department utilizes the services of a joint communications center located at the Port Angeles Police Department. The center is called PenCom, and provides this service for almost all law enforcement and fire departments in Clallam County.

Questions that may be asked of you

The dispatcher taking your call will be asking a series of questions that they need you to answer the best you can and with as much detail as possible.

WHERE

  • Where are you? Please give a complete address, if possible. If you don't know the address, please provide as much information about the building, apartment or major streets as possible.
  • Where is the emergency? If the emergency is not where you are calling from, please be prepared to tell them where the emergency is actually located.

TELEPHONE NUMBER

  • What is the telephone number you are calling from? With the installation of the 911 system, information about your location and telephone number may appear on a computer screen. In the event this does not happen they will need that information or possibly to verify the information is correct.

WHAT

  • What is the emergency? They need to determine what type of emergency is taking place. Please, listen carefully to any questions asked of you by the dispatcher and answer them as best as you can. Offer any additional information to the dispatcher that you may have.

IS ANYONE INJURED?

  • If someone is hurt, please try to give a brief description of the type of injury. This information aids the medical personnel that may need to respond.

WEAPONS

  • If it is possible, please give any information concerning any weapons that you may know of concerning the emergency situation. This information is for your safety as well as the officers and other personnel that will be responding to your emergency.

WHO

  • It helps greatly to know who is involved; how many people are involved; and any vehicles that are involved. The dispatcher will be asking questions concerning the description of person(s) and/or vehicles. Please provide as much information as possible.

We would ask that you educate yourself as well as all of you family members, including children, on the use of 9-1-1. IT IS FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY. For further information please contact any Sequim Police Officer or call us at 683-7227.
