What if I have a concern about an animal problem?

  • Animal control services are now available by contacting the police department or public works office, during regular business hours. After hours calls will still be handled by Police Officers.
  • The Code Compliance Officer handles complaints of barking or vicious animals, animal cruelty and animal bites. Contact the Code Compliance Officer by calling Public Works at 360-683-4908 or the Police Department at 360-683-7227.
  • Lost Pet forms are available at the Public Works or Police Department. If you have a lost pet and would like to drop off a flyer or fill out a lost pet form, a book with lost pet information is available to view in the lobby of Public Works.
  • The City is now equipped to handle stray animal calls again. If you have a concern about a stray animal, contact the police department or public works during business hours. Stray or abandoned animals will be picked up and taken to the humane society.
  • If you have picked up a stray or want to check on a lost pet, it is recommended to contact the Clallam County Humane Society, 2105 W. Highway 101, Port Angeles, telephone # 360-457-8206. They can also provide you with traps when needed.

How do I receive a copy of a police report?
The records unit is responsible for the proper lawful release of our records. The normal procedure is that you will need to respond to the police department and complete a "records release" form. After the request is processed you will be notified when the record will be available and the related charge for this service. If the record can not be released you will be advised of the reason for this as well.

How do I get an update on the status of my case investigation?
You can call the records unit or leave a message for the investigating officer and he will return your call.

How do I get my property returned to me?
You will need to call the records unit to see if the property can be released yet. Property is not available until after the case has been to court and the prosecutor releases the hold on the property. Once records has received the release they will coordinate with the Property Officer to get your property back to you.

Who do I call if I am a victim of a criminal situation?
On matters that are not emergencies, you should call the general number 683-7227. If there is an emergency, then we encourage you to call 9-1-1.

What do I do if I want to compliment or thank the Department or an employee?
You should call, write, or e-mail the Department with as much information as you want to share. Please direct it to the attention of the Chief of Police to ensure that proper credit is given for the compliment.

What do I do if I have a concern or complaint about the Department or an employee?
You should call 683-7227 and request to speak with one of the Sergeants or the Chief of Police. If they are not available, ask to be called back or for a specific time when they can be reached. We make every effort to resolve such issues at the lowest appropriate level, but all complaints are taken seriously.

What do I do if I need to be fingerprinted for my job or school?
You should come to the Police Department with your fingerprint cards filled out on Wednesday or Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary. There will be a five dollar charge. We do not do fingerprints for immigration unless the Immigration office specifically requests it of our Department.
