The men and women of the Sequim Police Department are committed to providing ‘Personal Attention to Our Community’ using community policing as the back bone for our service delivery. In essence, this police department is always looking to partner with our community to deter, deflect and prevent crime as well as having a traditional focus on enforcement.
We recognize that a one size fits all approach to policing is outmoded and believe that our citizens deserve the very best in community safety. Consequently, we have made investments in the area of a School Resource Officer (SRO) Program, a full-service Investigations Division, a community oriented Traffic Division, as well as an active Crime Prevention and Emergency Management Program.
The members of the Sequim Police Department take pride in the high level of professional service they are able to provide to the community. We are looking forward to meeting the challenges of the future by working in partnership with the resident and business groups within our City. Because of our community’s unique demographic and reputation as both a destination retirement community and tourist center, our staff strives to serve as ‘Ambassadors to Sequim.’
We hope that the information contained on this site is informative and we encourage you to contact us if you would like to know more about the Sequim Police Department, or if you have questions or suggestions for us.
The Sequim Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency consisting of a Patrol Division, Investigations (Detective) Division, Traffic Division and Support Services Division. The Police Department is located in the J.C. Penny's Shopping Plaza. In addition to the Sequim Police, there is a detachment of Clallam County Sheriff's Deputies who share the facility with the P.D.
The Sequim Police Department serves a resident population of nearly 6,300 residents. In addition, we serve nearly 23,000 residents who live in the immediate Sequim area who come to our community to shop, and use City and school facilities and services. In addition to our resident population, the peninsula has an influx of visitors from throughout the United States, Canada and other countries. Each year, over 400,000 persons and vehicles use the ferry system between our neighbor City of Port Angeles and Victoria B.C. Many of these visitors and travelers require assistance from the Police Department.
The Police Department has a tremendous Citizen Volunteer program. These volunteers provide valuable services to both the department and our citizens. They work within the offices of the Department, perform foot patrols in our business districts, provide parking enforcement, Vacation House Checks, safety and security checks for businesses and residents, perform random patrols throughout the community, acting as the eyes and ears of the police dept.
The Police Department is very pro-active within our community with interaction between various civic organizations, the Boys and Girls Club, Scouting organizations and our Schools. The Department is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC), the American College of Forensic Examiners (ACFE), and the Washington State Crime Prevention Association (WSCPA). |
