We are Dedicated
The Sequim Police Department, Traffic Safety Unit is dedicated to promoting and improving traffic safety through education, analyis and enforcement.
The Traffic Safety Division consists of one Sergeantm one or more Officers on assignment or on a special detail and a support staff that includes reserve police officers and citizen volunteers.
Currently, the Traffic Safety Division utilizes a radar trailer placed in various locations throughout Sequim by our volunteers. THese locations are picked based on citizen complaints, observations made by Officers, known problem areas and established risk locations based on collision occurences.
We periodically deploy large orange signs, as an additional warning to drivers, in areas where safety enforcement is taking place. We monitor our roads and the average speeds traveled on them with speed monitoring devices.
Target Zero and the Future
This new program targets driving violations that contribute to crashes in the Sequim area. Working with the Washington State Patrol and the Clallam County Sheriff's Office - local law enforecement is working together to improve traffic safety.
Drivers are encouraged to immediately report aggressive drivers, irratic driving, and potential drunk drivers by calling 9-1-1. A suspect license number and vehicle description are critical to help responding officers locate the suspect vehicle.

"Traffic safety has been identified by the community as a critical priority for our police officers to focus on. Concerns about spedding cars, aggressive drivers, congested streets and unsafe school zones have topped the list of citizen concerns. We're also announcing 'Target Zero' which focuses on reducing the driving violations that contribute to vehicle crashes in our community. City, county and state law enforcement officers are working together to improve traffic safety in the Sequim area.
